Most anglers know of Spain’s river Ebro with its abundance of wells catfish and carp, so we are extremely lucky to own a very productive stretch of the lower part of this river where we have been successfully welcoming anglers and angling families to our self-catering farmhouse since 2010. Not only do we provide safe fishing from our swims, but we also hire tackle and boats, sell bait and licences and of course provide friendly advice. For 2020 we have self-catering accommodation available in our luxury villa and caravan.
Fishing the River Ebro
Our stretch of the Ebro flows downstream from the lock at Flix past Mora and Benifallet to the weir at Tivenys, it is generally clear with a good flow of water, deep holes and shallow gravel runs that produces some great fishing. Catfish over 100lb and carp to 30lb are not un-common with some much bigger beasts around to catch. We have landed cats to 165lb and carp to 39lb from the bank. Other species rarer but in the river are; Crucian Carp, Rudd, Chub, Zander and Barbel.
We offer both bank and/or boat fishing with advice on method, knowledge of our swims and location of some of the “hotspots” on the river. Personal fishing methods and personnel ambition considered we also believe it’s the surroundings and amenities that finally determine the unforgettable fishing experience on this amazing river.
The bank is steep, but all our swims are approached safely via steps and the depth of the tree lined bank offers some shade from the sun during the long hot summer days. All our swims have been developed to take advantage of the rivers natural features and named appropriately; The Pump (built at our pump house) and Bay (takes advantage of river flow and rock formations to form a bay) swims both sit on large eddies that provide the ideal shelter and feeding areas for fishing in both high and low water. The tractor (there is an old tractor in it) swim is fished from a pontoon and is located on large gravel run and the Rock swim, named because of a huge rock that has created a hole that shallows out over a gravel run.
TACKLE and BAIT
For those anglers wanting to travel light we hire high quality fishing tackle on a daily and weekly basis supplying only Shimano or Penn bait runner reels and never crack catfish rods. Since our visit from a group from Dynamite Baits guys, we now supply their baits. Please ask for our current tackle and bait price list.
Our packages (carp, catfish or combination) include 2 rods and 2 reels, chair, pod/tripod, landing net, unhooking mat, gloves for catfish and per group scales and weigh sack, the packages exclude terminal tackle. However, we do keep a range of terminal tackle for sale, but always advise anglers to bring their own in line with their personal preference. Of course, we are always available for advice.
Note! licenses are mandatory, and we supply them on site for £15.00 for 2 weeks or £31.00 for 12-month, they are free to under 18’s and over 65’s.
Our fishing boats are made of aluminium for durability, are 4m long and fitted with 15hp 4 stroke Yamaha outboards motors to comply with river regulations for self-hire. We allow up to three persons per boat and provide Life Jackets, Anchor, ropes, documentation and full can of 95 petrol (09.00 hrs to 19.00hrs). As an extra, a fish finder can also be hired
Hire rates are £45.00 per day or £275.00 per week for a boat and £3.75 per day or £20.00 week.
Conditions of hire: The boats are hired with a full tank of fuel which is included in the hire price and there is no need to fill the tank at the end of your hire. We do require a deposit of £150.00 and a signed indemnity contract before the boat is released for hirer.
